The Impact Of the Leadership Environment
Welcome to our latest newsletter!
One thing we have learned over the past 15 years at Fire & Shield is that great leadership doesn’t happen in isolation. It is shaped by the environments we work in—our teams, our organizations, and the physical spaces that surround us every day.
This time, we are exploring this key question: How do our surroundings impact our ability to lead? And we are inviting you to experience it firsthand at an upcoming event with internationally acclaimed futurist and author Claus Sneppen (more about this later in the email).
How Space Shapes Leadership
Over the years, we have facilitated countless leadership sessions, discussions, and workshops. And time and time again, we have seen how the surroundings we are in change everything.
Some of the most memorable conversations didn’t happen in stiff office chairs under fluorescent lighting. They took place in the middle of our Bretz showroom, surrounded by deep, textured fabrics, vibrant colors, and plush seating that invited people to relax.
And something interesting happened.
People slowed down. Their usual, rehearsed responses softened. Instead of jumping straight into tactics, they started reflecting. The unexpected nature of the space disrupted their usual patterns, prompting new perspectives and deeper conversations.
This is the philosophy behind Shielding Spaces: The idea that our environment shapes our mindset, decisions, and interactions in ways we often underestimate. That our environment can help us SHIELD our team in a time of often increasing FIRE. We aim to create spaces with more than just aesthetics in mind—we design with the purpose of fostering stronger teams and becoming better colleagues.
When we design our surroundings with intention, we don’t just create more inspiring spaces—we make leadership itself easier, allowing decisions and collaboration to flow more naturally. And that’s exactly what we strive for at Fire & Shield. The two go hand in hand.
Beyond Leadership: The Role of Space in Work and Well-Being
This belief—that space is not just a backdrop but an active participant in leadership and collaboration—is why we founded Shielding Spaces six years ago. Through our work, we explore how spatial design influences well-being, creativity, and focus, whether at home or in the workplace.

For the past six years, we have been the Scandinavian partner for Bretz (a 130-year-old, family-owned German furniture brand), bringing their unique and expressive designs to both workplaces and homes. Whether for leaders and teams challenging conventional work environments or individuals redefining comfort and creativity in their personal spaces, Bretz reimagines how we engage with our surroundings.
And in November, we took an exciting step by opening the first-ever Bretz Concept Store in Copenhagen—a space designed to spark new ways of thinking about leadership, collaboration, and everyday living.
Now, we’re inviting you to step into this space and experience it for yourself.
